Hi there and welcome to my little piece of the blog world, The Balance Project! My name is Heidi and I am a 20-something recent university graduate who has a love for life and finding the balance within it.
I live way out on the East coast of Canada on an island called Newfoundland with my boyfriend Bruce. I am a proud Newfoundlander and though I love to travel there is nothing better then coming home. Though living in Canada does have it’s challenges for runners in the form of our icy winter weather I make it work and embrace the cold!
I graduated in May 2011 with a Bachelor of Commerce (co-op) and Bachelor of Arts (English). Shortly after graduating I landed my dream job in Human Resources with a local company where I currently work full-time. When I am not working or blogging I can be found doing all things fitness, reading, or planning my next travel adventure!
University was an exciting adventure in my life and I am a proud Memorial University Alumni. However, as a young undergrad I developed some very poor eating and exercise habits. I would eat typical fried fare and exercise when I felt like it. Over about a 7 year period I gained about 25 pounds and decided that it was time to get my act together so a little over a year ago I began a healthy living journey, one that I now plan to continue here.
I made it my mission to make healthy eating and exercise part of my life for good instead of something I just did occasionally. I saw a nutritionist and began exercising regularly. I tried many different exercise options but have found that running in combination with strength training, elliptical, swimming, and yoga, Pilates, tai chi to be the magic combination that I love. It was through my journey to healthy living that I discovered the healthy living blog community, after many years of reading I finally decided to give it a shot myself and start The Balance Project. I feel so honoured to be a part of such a supportive and helpful community!
After starting back at exercising regularly, I fell in love with running and road racing. In 2011 I ran 3 races, you can find the recaps here. A post about some of my favourite running gear is here. Racing has really become a way for me to focus my training and keep my motivation high. Goal setting in fitness and in life is very important to me. In 2012 my main goal is the half-marathon which I am currently training for.
This blog is about my journey as a new grad, exercise lover, foodie, and a way to keep accountable and share my journey to finding balance in health and life. Thanks for stopping by! Feel free to drop me a line I’d love to hear from you either by commenting or the following ways:
